Mikael Hilapok (19) and Oktovianus Hisage (25) were arrested on 30 August 2019 and accused of looting a computer and its equipment from an electoral commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum, KPU) building. Prosecutors sought one year jail for them. Oktovianus Hisage was released on 26 January 2020 because his detention term had finished. The District Court found them guilty of violating Article 363 paragraph (1) section 2 of the Criminal Code on theft and sentenced Mikael Hilapok to six months’ imprisonment on 15 January 2020 and on 11 February 2020 for Oktovianus Hisage . The latter and the prosecutor both appealed the decision. The Court of Appeal in Jayapura upheld the verdict on 30 March 2020.
